A Rival's Kiss by Maya Hughes, The St. Francis University Series Book 3

May 2022

A Rival's Kiss by Maya Hughes is book 3 in the STFU series that can be read as a standalone book. It's the long awaited story of Enzo Johannsen, the quiet, broody and stoic college student whose goal is to be drafted into the NFL.

Growing up in foster care until he aged out, Enzo lived in poverty never knowing when he'll eat or where he'll be. He's never felt loved or cared for and was on his own from a very young age. He's the man with very little to say, but says a lot when he does say something. He's never allowed himself to get too close to anyone, even his football team mates. He views everything as just a stepping stone to get to where he strives to be.... the NFL. Getting drafted meant the security he's always wanted and is fighting for.

Willa has been sheltered and coddled by her parents and brother from the time she was born. She's done everything her family had always wanted of her. She sacrificed her own goals and needs to appease them. Her brother, Walsh, constantly shadowing her and threatening anyone who could possibly hurt her. She's been given anything and everything she's ever wanted, except for the one thing she craved more than anything.... freedom to choose..... freedom to live.... freedom to love.

The two. Living two lives. Living two towns across the state. In two universities who rivaled one another. With a brother in one university football team while Ezra in the rivaling one. Two football players who hate each other.

These, all recipes for a disaster.

One very strong connection that they can't seem to sever. One relationship they both ache for. One life they want to have together. One love that keeps getting stronger for every obstacle that comes their way.

A Rival's Kiss by Maya Hughes is so much more than a love story. It's the coming together of two people with such broken backgrounds. Two people who has to fight for what they truly wanted. Both weakened by their circumstances and built walls to protect themselves. One struggles to find her voice to stand up to the family that loves her and the other struggles to accept support and love from the people that love him.

This is an inspiring story of determination, perseverance, acceptance, strength, independence and self worth. It is truly a beautiful story.
