This is my first book from R.C. Stephens and I loved it. Heartless Player is a college/sports/friends to lovers romance that has a bit of a mystery and steamy scenes.
Wolfe is a hot college hockey player for Westfall University. He is known as a heartless player for being a cold, one and done player on and off the ice. He's hiding some secrets that stemmed from his family and past.
Rebel, a beautiful but shy woman who will avoid any attention as much as possible. Her timidness stems from a tragic experience with her family. She lives in the shadows and prefers it that way. But not if Wolfe has his way.
Wolfe is intrigued with her and develops a friendship with Rebel. Rebel is not used to anyone having any interest in her and is hesitant to get closer to Wolfe. What does Wolfe want with Rebel when he can have any woman he wants?
Wolfe has made it very clear that he is not a relationship type guy. Rebel has made it very clear that she wasn't a puck bunny.
So, why do they act like a couple?
What does he want with her? There has to be a reason, right?
What happened to Rebel that made her lose her confidence?
Can Rebel get out of the shadows and start to enjoy living life again?
What is Wolfe hiding?
Will their feelings be enough to get over the secrets and hurdles they must face?
This book deals with guilt and self confidence issues. It's a journey to forgiveness and finding strength within yourself in order to have a better life. It's about learning to love and accept who you are. To follow your own dreams instead of trying to prove yourself to someone and sticking up for yourself as well as your loved ones.
R.C. Stephens has written romance with a bit of mystery in it. It kept me interested throughout the entire book. She's developing some great characters in this sports/college romance series that has me wanting to read on to book 2, Ruthless Player. I'm happy to say that I definitely will be continuing the Westfall U series and can't wait to get to know more of the characters as the stories go on. If you like college/sports romance, I'd suggest you give this a try.
